E-cigarette use has not translated into a smoking epidemic, with adult and youth smoking continuing to decrease.
The number of adults smoking fell from 14.5 per cent in 2014-15 to 13.8 per cent in 2017-18.
In 2017-18, 1.9 per cent of 15-17 years olds were daily smokers, down from 2.7 per cent of 15-17 year olds in 2014 -15.
It is estimated that 242,675 Australians currently vape (based on the most recent National Drug Strategy Household Survey 2016 responses and current population data).
